WHAT IT IS
A big lace star wheel turns on one wooden axle between two lace Christmas trees. 24 small houses, numbered 1 to 24, hang from the wheel and stay level all the way round. Both roof slopes of every house are lids: lift today's roof and take the treat, and it drops shut by itself. A wide drawer in the snowflake base holds the surprise for day 25.
Finished size: 334 x 202 x 406 mm (13.1 x 7.9 x 15.9 in), width x depth x height. About 1.6 kg.
IT TURNS – BY HAND, NO MOTOR
Turn the wheel slowly by hand. The boxes hang level and swing freely.
24 BOXES + DRAWER 25
Each box holds one wrapped treat up to about 20 mm (3/4 in). Drawer 25 in the base is 133 x 182 mm inside and 33 mm high, for bigger treats.
LESS GLUE
The boxes and their lids go together without glue, and the base walls join with finger joints. Glue goes on the layered parts (lace, rings, hub, axle strips), the bars in the rings, the base bands, the drawer and the tree stands. The guide shows every glue spot.

– Two pictures show a painted example (pictures 2 and 3); paint is not included. The other pictures show plain wood.
WHAT YOUR LASER NEEDS
– A work area of a full 300 x 300 mm (11.8 x 11.8 in). The largest parts are 286 x 202 mm (the base plates) and 278 x 259 mm (the star).
– 3 mm plywood that measures 2.8 to 3.2 mm thick. Please measure yours.
– 13 boards of 300 x 300 mm, and a 200 x 100 mm offcut for the fit coupon.
– Use the files as they are, without kerf compensation (0.02 mm at most).
WHAT YOU GET
– 13 cut sheets of 300 x 300 mm and one small fit coupon.
– Formats: SVG, DXF, PDF and EPS. Cut lines come in cut-order colours, engraving (the day numbers) in black, part numbers in blue.
– One PDF with all sheets, and a picture of every sheet with its part numbers.
– A step-by-step picture guide (PDF, 39 pages): every step shows the new parts apart and then in place, with close-ups of the tricky spots and a number for every part that matches the sheets.
– A Read Me with the cutting notes.
– A few spare parts are on the sheets (box lids, a box end, box side walls, bar strips).
These are standard vector files that laser and vector software can open, for example LightBurn, xTool Creative Space, Illustrator and Inkscape.
CUT THE COUPON FIRST
Lasers and wood vary. The small fit coupon uses real kit parts and shows in a few minutes whether your wood and your settings suit this file, before you cut 13 boards. Every joint, the turning wheel, the lids, the drawer and the build order were checked in 3D software for wood from 2.8 to 3.2 mm and a range of laser cut widths.
GOOD TO KNOW
– A relaxed weekend project: no gears, the 24 boxes are the same small job 24 times. Glue has to dry between some steps.
– Cut at 100% size, do not resize. Not suitable for blade cutters.
– You will need: wood glue, masking tape, a ruler, a square block, a damp cloth, thin card (cereal-box card), scissors, a toothpick, fine sandpaper, offcuts from the sheets and enough books for four stacks about 11 cm high (110 to 115 mm).
– An adult builds it and turns the wheel. A decoration, not a toy. It has small parts: keep it away from children under 3.
– Stand it on a flat, steady table. Lift it from underneath the base, never by the wheel, a tree or a box.
– The files are for your own use. You may not resell, share or give away the digital files.
